A man is in custody in connection with the death of a bicyclist, 57-year-old Debra Ceschin. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office a tip from the public lead to the arrest of 27-year-old suspect Gage Grimes.
On May 25, 2021, just before 6:30 a.m., a vehicle allegedly driven by Grimes collided with Ms. Ceschin on her bicycle on McDowell Mountain Road, near Mile Post 2 in Fountain Hills, Arizona. The vehicle fled the scene.
Ms. Ceschin was found by a passerby and was deceased when deputies arrived on scene.
A witness reported a white truck stopped at the entrance to the McDowell Mountain Regional Park around that time, which is just north of the collision scene, and two unknown males got out of the vehicle and inspected the right front corner of the vehicle. After putting out a flyer with information of the incident and image of the vehicle, MCSO received several tips from the public, which led the Vehicular Crimes Unit Detectives to Grimes.
Grimes has been arrested and booked on one count of leaving the scene of a fatal traffic collision (C2F).
