According to reports from federal data, there is an abrupt increase in deaths due to a drug overdose. The places like Missouri and Kansas are most prone to such deaths.
Concerning provisional data by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, deaths related to drug declined by 5%. Precisely, this data is for the year 2018. Previously, in the year 2017, the number of deaths due to the drug was as high as 72 thousand.
However, the data also indicates deaths due to drug overdose in Kansas increased to 341 in the year 2018. Unfortunately, the data was 326 in the year 2017. On the other hand, this number increased to 1,635 deaths in Missouri. Likewise, back in the year 2017, the number was 1,406. Although this data, the authorities have not finalized it as of now.
Over 1100 Deaths Occurred Involving Opioids- Randall Williams
Moreover, the Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services’ director comes forward to talk. Randall Williams is the director who reveals some critical data. According to Williams, over 1100 deaths due to drug overdose occurred in Kansas involving opioids. Also, approximately half of that number is from the area of St. Louis.
Further, Williams says that they are dealing with an enhanced presence of carfentanil and fentanyl in Missouri. Additionally, he says that such things present a high risk for the overdose of an opioid. Williams then says that they will continue for concentrating upon grater approaches to prevent the misuse of opioid. Besides, they will also take new measures simultaneously to avoid the overdose of fentanyl.
Furthermore, the officials from Missouri and Kansas signed orders for purchasing naloxone at pharmacies. Surprisingly, with this allowance in the year 2017, people could buy it without any prescription. For the record, naloxone happens to be a drug to counteract the overdose of an opioid. And also, it is familiar with the brand name of Narcan.
