In October of 2012, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced its transition to a new mass notification system called “CodeRED”.
CodeRED is a high-speed telephone emergency notification system that allows public safety personnel to send messages directly to residents – whether they are home or away – during an emergency. It uses geo-tracking to target specific areas with pre-recorded phone messages, emails or texts.
CodeRED alerts may be implemented in situations such as police activity in the area, an Amber Alert, wildfires or other emergency incidents..
Effective immediately, Undersheriff Tony Spurlock is pleased to announce that the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office thru CodeRED has implemented new features. In response to community concerns, these new features will include a separate group notification in the event of a public school emergency to private early learning centers, churches with day care centers and private day school centers.
Undersheriff Tony Spurlock said, “We are pleased to see that early learning centers and churches are able to receive these notifications in an emergency. We need to be able to protect the most vulnerable citizens in our community, and this is one more added tool that our community has available to them at their fingertips.”
To register your church, or early learning center or day school, please contact Lt. Laurie Anderson of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (303) 660-7597 or by e-mail at landerso@dcsheriff.net.
