King Country is again the victim of a measles case. Now, this makes the count to the total of 7 measles case in Western Washington, said by the health officials. The victim of the 7th measles case is a woman. The woman is in her early 30’s. Out of the 7 cases, King County has been the victim for four times. Snohomish County encountered measles once, and the rest two cases hit Pierce County.
Health officials have given update towards the reason of this measles outbreak. Every infected individual visited Sea-Tac Airport at least once before being infected, said by the health officials. The recent lady also confirmed her visit to the Sea-Tac airport on 25th April 2019. Health officials find these events connecting and named “an unidentified person” at this airport is the reason for the exposure of the virus.
This incident has made citizens cautious about their health. High School students in Bothell and Issaquah, who are not vaccinated, are sent home. It counts to 11 school staff, and 39 students are sent back to stay safe from being infected. The students are asked not to return before 21days of the incubation period is over for the measles virus.
Nineteen high school students of Bothell are requested to return to school from June. The remaining 20 students from Issaquah High School are asked to be at home until 31st May. Issaquah ordered the high schools to shut since last Thursday soon after the measles case was confirmed. From early May, a staff member who was infected by the measles virus was staying in school for a long time. Health officials examined other staff members and the students if it has spread to others.
From the previous outbreaks, the cities took prevention by giving vaccinations to kids above one year of age and, adults. Some left out to avail the vaccination and are at high risk of getting contaminated. The affected persons do not recognize the symptoms immediately and act normal and thereby increase the area of exposure.
A non-immune person wandering in the measles exposure area gets contaminated, and the number of victims increases. The symptoms include fever followed by rashes. The symptoms are noticeable after a minimum of 7 days of exposure. It might also take 21 days to show the first sign of symptoms. The host will undergo severe fever for 10 to 12 days, followed by rashes on the skin.
Health care officials make it clear that the more the people of the country will be immunized, the better it can fight this disease. For the records, 95% of the country’s population is vaccinated. The rest 5% include children below one year of age and people having health diseases.
The US planned on eradicating measles from the roots back in 2000. The plan succeeded to some extent until this year. Measles virus came back in the US, bringing up more than 800 victims recently. From the survey done by Health officials, this count is the highest since 1994.
