Chandler Parents Calls On School Board To “Not Burden” Kids With Critical Race Theory

A father of small children in the Chandler Unified School District calls on the governing board to not "burden" his children with CRT.

On Wednesday, June 23, residents came before the Chandler Unified School District governing board, speaking passionately in opposition to use of Critical Race Theory based curriculum. Although the District has denied the presence of Critical Race Theory concepts in pedagogy and classroom materials, parents came forward offering evidence to the contrary.

One father, Kieran Mitchell, discussed the effect of the controversial teaching on his children and implored the governing board to stop burdening his children with Critical Race Theory.

“I just came here because my kids are 8, 10, and 12 and we started to experience things as far as Black History Month. My kids would come home and they would be afraid and I would always ask them what was going on, and then I realized that they were teaching my kids about slavery and civil rights and nothing in between and you’ve got CRT,” said Mr. Mitchell, referring to Critical Race Theory, “and I ask you guys not to burden my kids with something that’s going to hold them back. I don’t teach them all the history because I want them to soar as big as they can be without the burden of someone saying ‘you’re oppressed’ or ‘I’m being nice to you is why you are succeeding.’ I want my kids to just thrive, and continue to be kids, and grow as much as they possibly can. So, I ask you guys to look at what you are doing and what the future is going to hold for the kids who are experiencing all of this right now.”

The Chandler School District has come into sharp focus due in part to the antics of Governing Board Member Lindsay Love. Love has accused parents, residents, and even the popular black conservative radio show host, James T. Harris of being racist due to their opposition to the radical ideology.

Love, was admonished at a board meeting earlier this month by fellow Board member Joel Wirth, for her repeated attacks on community members including Harris.

In the case of Harris, Love accused him of being a “house slave” and suffering from “Post Traumatic Slave Disorder.”
