In Yale University the scientists have found some interesting facts while studying the brain cells of pig hours after death. According to the researchers, the basic cellular activity of pig’s brain cells are restored, and this will help in treating the brain injuries and stroke in humans. In a report released on Wednesday says, the cellular activity and circulation in pig’s brain are restored by scientists after four hours of its death. The study has revealed some interesting facts related to the cessation of brain function that is irreversible.
Yale scientist, in Journal nature, explained the research conducted on pig’s brain. The brain of a dead pig was obtained from the meatpacking plant. The brain of the specimen is circulated and isolated in a chemical solution. The scientists observed many cellular activities after cessation of cellular blood and oxygen flow. According to the senior author of the study, Nenad Sestan-professor of Neuroscience, psychiatry, genetics and comparative medicine, the brain of the has retained the restoration capacity even after hours of its death. The co-author of the study Zvonimir Vrselja, neuroscience research scientist, said, there is no activity associated with awareness, consciousness or awareness is observed in the research. The brain of the pig is only cellular active but clinically it the brain is dead.
The scientists, in Sestan’s lab, connected vasculature of pig’s brain to circulate a uniquely formulated chemical solution for isolating the brain tissue. The system used for that is known as BrainEx. The scientists found that certain vascular functionality of the cell, glial, neural activity was restored. The neural integrity of the cell also preserved. The concerned research was focused on brain evolution and development. The scientists observed that even after hours of the death of the specimen the small sample of the tissue works, as usual, showing the cellular viability.
For the first time, the scientists can study on a three dimensional mammalian brain with this study. The study has increased the ability to research on cellular connectivity and interaction. According to Stefano G. Daniele- Ph.D. scholar at Yale University, the scientists are only able to study two dimensional cells previously and obtain the tissue sample for their research. The current study is the innovation in the world of medical science which will help future investigations.
The current research has found new evidence related to the death of organ cells after the specimen is clinically dead. Doctors can preserve the organs after the end of the patient. There seems a blurring line in this research. The regular cellular activity was restored after hours of death in pig, but the electrical activity was ceased in the brain cell. However, the study has given a new alert to the previously studied linked to the determination of death. Determining the end of the specimen is very simple, but the cells of different organs of the body are functioning. In this study also, the scientists have found the brain cells active in this large mammal. The study is an excellent innovation for future researches.
