Animal Control Officers Help Rescue Hikers Dog In Mohave County

Mohave County Animal Enforcement officers came to the rescue of a hiker’s dog this week went it became too weak to make it down the east side trail in the Black Mountains.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11:30 a.m., on Friday, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office received a call for help from a 20-year-old female who was hiking with her English Bulldog along the Cave Springs Trail. She said that her dog had become overheated and could not walk anymore on the trail. She was having problems getting him to stand up and he was very exhausted.

The hiker’s father had come up to help bring the dog back to the trail head, but the dog was too big to be carried out – weighing about 120 pounds. It was already fairly warm outside with temperatures about 95 degrees at the time. While Search and Rescue was responding to the scene, Animal Enforcement officers arrived and hiked up to their location – bringing water and a stretcher for the dog. The dog was loaded up by Animal Enforcement officers.

Search and Rescue personnel want to remind the public to think twice before bringing pets along on adventures into the rugged wilderness areas as these days get warmer.
