Currently, around fifty million people have a type of dementia in all over the world. Additionally, ten millions of people are at risk of dementia. The report was issued on Tuesday by the World Health Organization. According to new guidelines of the World Health Organization, maintaining a proper lifestyle which involves eating right and exercising can reduce the chances of dementia. Rather than depending on the medications, pills and vitamins adopting healthy habits can benefit more. The total cost of treating dementia patients may increase to two trillion dollars per year by the year 2030, according to the report.

According to the report, many behaviors and health conditions cause the development of dementia in individuals. The research suggests, about one-third of the dementia cases can be prevented. The chief officer- Maria Carrillo of Alzheimer’s Assn said aging is not the ultimate fact that cause dementia and not natural. She also added dementia is not curable, so we have to prevent the occurrence of the disease. The guidance of the WHO suggests, eating well frequently can eliminate vitamins and pills. Vitamins from foods can supplement brain health, so you don’t have to rely on the tablets.

The guideline says the shortcut to vitamins doesn’t work in terms of pills. Likewise, vitamin E or B pills, supplements and fish oil don’t help in brain health development. According to Dr. Neerja Chowdhary of the World Health Organization, no evidence has been found yet about the effectiveness of the supplements to reduce the chances of dementia. Whereas, taking high dose can be hazardous for overall health. So individuals should opt for nutrient dense food rather than depending on pills for nutrition. However, activities like games and puzzles are declined by the World Health Organization to be endorsed. WHO said, those activities not necessarily help to prevent dementia. The activities do not provide an effective result in case of dementia. The anti-depression pills can help treat depression and anxiety, but cannot reduce the risk of dementia, says the report. Dementia usually occurs in older people, but it is not natural. It doesn’t happen due to aging.
