The highest number of cells in the human body is of skin cells. The skin is one of the essential parts of human being, covers all parts of the body. A baby in San Antonio was born on the eve of New Year, Ja’bari Grey. The little bay was taken without most of his skin, is now in stable condition after three months. Ja’bari was transferred to Houston on 12th of April. Doctors, there still struggle to find the reason behind this condition. The doctors can treat him well after discovering the cause of the disease. Well, the baby is doing well from Tuesday.
Ja’bari was born on 1st of January at Methodist hospital without most of his skin. The baby has skin on his legs and heads only. The condition is told Aplasia Cutis then by the doctors of Methodist hospital. The rare skin condition can be the cause of missing skin in Ja’bari, said the doctors. The baby was transferred to Texas children’s hospital in Houston on Monday because the child specialists in this hospital are more experienced in treating the rare conditions like this. The mother of the baby Maldonado and her husband Marvin Grey were told by the doctors that, the skin condition is not Aplasia Cutis, but something other than that.
The doctors in Texas say the condition might be Epidermolysis bullosa. The disease affects twenty newborns in the United States out of one million births. The state is due to a rare connective tissue disorder that is genetic. The condition is susceptible, the skin tears from minor trauma and friction. There is no cure for EB, can be managed only by infection control, measures and other pain medications. The parents of the baby have undergone genetic testing, to find the exact reason for the condition in Ja’bari. These kinds of disorders are mostly inherited genetically.
Ja’bari weighed only three pounds when he was born in a Methodist hospital. Doctors in Houston are treating Ja’bari with topical ointments, frequent dressings and pain medication. So that the infection can be prevented and the skin condition is managed. The baby is now being fed through a tube that is inserted to the nose. Ja’bari now weighs eight pounds and in a stable condition than before. Surgery will be done on Ja’bari soon, says his mother. Upcoming surgery involves an incision on the baby’s throat to remove scar tissues which caused the chin fused with the chest. The doctors have discussed the operation with the parents. The eyelids of Ja’bari have been combined from birth.
The parents of the baby have not been able to hold the baby with their hands yet as the baby is in observation. They can’t even touch the baby skin to skin; they have to wear gloves and gown to hold the baby. The baby now in a stable condition but not completely cured. Doctors can confirm about the skin condition after the successful surgery that will be done in the coming days.
