Last Thursday, Denver Police officers responded to a possible kidnapping in the 1800 block of California Street. The victim received a call from an out of state number, telling her that her husband and children were in a car accident and his brother’s car was damaged.
The caller demanded $2,000 to fix his brother’s car and to get her family back. The caller continued, telling the victim that his brother was in a Mexican drug cartel, so they did not want to involve the police. The caller was able to tell the woman that her husband was driving a black SUV, but nothing else. The caller continued to press her to wire him the money. However, the victim confirmed that her children were at school, and her husband at work, and were not involved in an accident.
Denver Police advise that should you receive a similar call, notify your local law enforcement agency.
