Mescal Fire Forces Evacuations In Gila County

Evacuation orders have been issued for the Mescal Fire, burning in Gila County. Evacuation orders are now issued for Coyote Flats Peridot Heights, the San Carlos High School Area, and all residents along Route 3.

A temporary shelter is set up at the Apache Gold Casino Bingo Hall, the Gilson Wash Activity Center, and Lee Kornegay Elementary School in Miami AZ. A livestock shelter is also available at the Apache Gold Pavilion.

The fire, which broke out on June 1, is burning 16 miles southeast of Globe and has destroyed an estimated 7,000 acres. It has been 5% contained as of June 4.
