A Phoenix man is in critical condition after his children called 911 to report that he was trying to get into their home.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the 42-year-old man was shot at a home in north Phoenix on Sunday evening.
The teens told police that their mother had an order of protection against the man, who has not yet been identified.
The Phoenix Police Department explained the situation in a Facebook post:
At about 5:00 p.m., Officers were called to a residence near 39th Avenue and Thunderbird for a violation of an order of protection. The callers were the teenage children of the man, who was not allowed to be at the residence.
The man was armed with a gun and standing in the driveway when officers saw him. The officer saw the man point the gun at him and an exchange of gunfire occurred. The man was struck, and he has been transported to the hospital with critical injuries. There were no injuries to officers or any other community members.
Detectives have discovered that the man’s vehicle had been set on fire. He then took another vehicle at gunpoint near 28th Drive and Cactus Road. The man forced the victim to drive him to the residence where the police shooting occurred.
