Hold your breath as the Earth is going to pass a moment when an asteroid will fly by with its moon. The asteroid named as 1999 KW4 is likely to liberate by the Earth at around 7:05 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday.
So, this Saturday you will be getting two guests to visit from space. The asteroid is expected to bring its moon. According to the planetary scientist, Vishnu Reddy, this is believed to be one of the “closest binary” to fly by the Earth. In addition to his statement, he procured that this is going to be another reason for making the dynamic duo an “interesting target.”
The broadcast is intriguing enough to entail about the physical configuration of the asteroid. The Asteroid 1999 KW4 came into notice on 20 May 1999. The Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research (LINEAR) facility near Socorro, New Mexico, made it an evident discovery and placed intensive research since then.
In the research, the LINEAR facility found that Asteroid 1999 KW4 is 1.5 kilometers about .93 miles wide and thrice the size of its moon. The moon is in a width of about 0.5 kilometers, which is .3 miles. The researchers have galloped with adequate information. The research speaks that it is not a threat to earth. It will not collide with the surfaces of the Earth. Even when it would pass by, it would be 3 million miles away. The linear distance would be not sufficient to watch it through naked eyes.
Asteroid 1999 KW4 will be moving at a speed of about 50,000 miles per hour. The movement of the asteroid would be checked by the astronomers using a combination of space-based and Earth telescopes. This celestial comeback movement is considered to be the second-closest approach that has made to the Earth in the past 20 years.
In administering the present situation, to save Earth from these kinds of celestial attacks or more specifically a visit of an asteroid, NASA has planned to tap SpaceX to refine the asteroid’s motion. The main objective of this collaboration is to track the impact of the asteroid and protect human civilization from any extremities.
NASA announced its collaboration with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to give launch services for the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission. It is considered that human civilization would easily be destructed or brought to a standstill if the planetary surfaces are hit by one asteroid also. To evaluate the amount of catastrophe, NASA is on a mission to make a collision with an asteroid Didymoon.
The entire mission is likely to be launched by 2020 or 2021. After that, it can be probed into the asteroid’s surface. But, to highlight the tittle-tattle of this Saturday night, Asteroid 1999 KW4 will not make any trajectory attack to the planetary surface of the Earth. Its flybys can only be looked through an 8-inch diameter telescope. So, you can engage your evening in watching the second closest asteroid flyby from the territorial extension of the Earth.
